EasyJet Belfast to Egypt flight cancelled after police attend ‘disruptive’ group

EasyJet flight EZY3077 from Belfast to Hurghada was cancelled after police were called to reports of disruptive passenger behaviour, causing crew to reach their regulated operating hours

A Belfast to Egypt flight was axed this weekend after police were called in due to a “group of customers behaving disruptively.” EasyJet flight EZY3077, scheduled to fly from Belfast International Airport to Hurghada at 12.55pm on Saturday, January 3, was pushed back to Sunday morning, January 4, following the disruption.

The airline confirmed in a statement that they treat such “incidents seriously” and refuse to “tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard.” The disruption caused delays that pushed crew members beyond their legally mandated working hours, forcing the flight’s cancellation.

An easyJet spokesperson explained: “Flight EZY3077 from Belfast to Hurghada on 3rd January was attended by police prior to departure due to a group of customers behaving disruptively onboard.”, reports Belfast Live.

“Our cabin crew are trained to assess all situations and to act quickly and appropriately, to ensure that the safety of the flight and other customers is not compromised at any time. We take these incidents seriously and do not tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard.

“Unfortunately this delay led to the crew reaching their safety regulated operating hours which has resulted in the flight being rescheduled to tomorrow and we are providing customers with hotel accommodation and meals.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority and while this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience this will have caused.”

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed they “assisted Belfast International Airport Constabulary with the disembarkation of passengers” from the flight.

The news comes after we reported how a woman aboard a Ryanair flight that was forced to return to Birmingham has alleged passengers were ‘hurled from their seats’ during a terrifying incident which saw the aircraft lurch violently without warning.

The 33 year old from Lichfield, who requested anonymity, described the experience as ‘like something from a horror movie’.

The flight took off from Birmingham Airport at roughly 2.50pm on Sunday, December 28 and transmitted an emergency signal (squawk 7700) over Brittany, France, after climbing to an altitude of 35,000ft.
