Teen boy, 16 dies in horror crash whereas crossing highway as driver, 18 arrested

A 16-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a car in Manchester, with an 18-year-old arrested in connection with the incident – police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward

A teenager has died in a horror car crash while crossing the road. Greater Manchester Police said a Seat Ibiza was travelling along Kingsway in Manchester at approximately 6.40pm on Friday, January 2, when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the carriageway.

The pedestrian, a 16 year old boy, sustained critical injuries and was immediately transported to hospital, but sadly passed away. Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now seeking information following the fatal road traffic collision, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Following the crash, an 18-year-old man was taken into custody and has subsequently been released on bail while investigations continue.

DC Antrobus of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts are first and foremost with the family of the young boy who sadly lost his life.

“They are being supported by specialist officers, and we would ask that their privacy is respected as they grieve.

“We know that the local community will also be shocked and saddened to hear of this incident however we’d encourage anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time the incident occurred to please come forward.

“This also includes anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of it.”

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone with information to please come forward. This includes anyone who witnessed the incident or have CCTV or dashcam footage.
