Ariana Grande’s Glinda-inspired Critics Choice Awards pink gown had a secret meaning behind it.
The Wicked star, 32, looked incredible when she took to the stage at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar.
Eagle-eyed fashionistas have noticed that the look was inspired by American actress and singer Diahann Carroll’s iconic Oscars dress from 1969.
Diahann notably received one Oscar nomination for Best Actress in 1975 for her role in the film Claudine. This made her one of the first Black actresses nominated in that category. She died in 2019.

Her off-the-shoulder tailored gown was custom-made in pink satin and enveloped in a floor-length, draped white embroidered tulle cape overlay.
It was then embellished with silver floral appliqués. The styling was by Law Roach and Yvonne Shelly.
Ariana was also sporting her original darker brunette hair, which she had before she took on the role of Glinda.
The singer’s own beauty brand, r.e.m.beauty by @arianagrande also revealed the products used to create her look.
She wore the cherry blossom blush palette, the sweetener foundation in light 8NW, the sweetener concealer in light 4G.
Ariana opted for the flourishing lengthening mascara, the interstellar highlighter topper in miss mercury, the hypernova matte bronzer in solar storm.
She completed her look with the practically permanent lip stain marker in booked n busy and then the on your collar plumping gloss in pink razor.
Ariana was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Glinda in Wciked: For Good, but Amy Madigan took home the gong for her role in Weapons.
