Fugitive monkey goes bananas for guitars in music retailer as he causes chaos and destruction

A mischievous Cinnamon Capuchin monkey, native to Central and South America, caused chaos at a music shop by damaging expensive instruments before being captured

Ain’t not monkey business with this little cheeky rocker who went totally bananas. The rogue monkey went on a rampage at a music store, stealing not only the show but also expensive instruments.

The ape’s name has not been made public, but it has been identified as a Cinnamon Capuchin native to Central and South America. He was reportedly caught damaging musical instruments at a guitar shop in Tennessee, USA.

After an hours-long monkey hunt, the mischievous amateur of rock music has been caught and is now reportedly in custody. According to recent reports, the little rockstar was captured on Sunday (January 4).

The monkey was reportedly spotted rampaging through the Trade Center music shop in Morristown. The small business owners called police around 8 am to report the damage, which security footage revealed to be caused by the little brown primate, the New York Post reported.

Police released images showing the amusing creature leaning over the shop’s guitar stand and peering into a glass case filled with effects pedals, with a Fender Stratocaster and other guitars nearby. After officers appealed to the public for sightings and conducted a search of the area, the monkey was eventually captured by Sunday evening, according to 10News.

The exact circumstances of its capture remain unclear, though police were reportedly spotted carrying a large animal crate over a chain-link fence in a residential garden. Authorities believe the monkey was stolen from a farm in Alabama and sold to a woman in Tennessee, but how it managed to escape is still unknown.

The US Department of Agriculture has informed the original owner about the animal’s whereabouts and “shenanigans”. The wits and agility of monkeys are not to be messed with.

A chimpanzee proved just that in November, after she caused chaos at a zoo following her escape from her enclosure. The entire premise had to be put on lockdown after the ape went missing, but was able to be located and brought back after being sedated, the Daily Star previously reported .

During the bizarre incident at Indianapolis Zoo in the US state of Indiana, the animal sent visitors into a frenzy as many tried to hide in their cars. Some couples even hid inside the dolphin exhibit in the zoo, as emergency services were called to deal with the incident.

Fire crews in Indianapolis were alerted to an incident taking place at the zoo at around on November 14. They received numerous calls to help save visitors who had become stranded whilst hiding from the primate.

Visitors were told by staff at the zoo to shelter somewhere out of danger whilst emergency crews were able to attend to the escaped monkey. According to local media, the chimp is named Mara and is described as being a “curious and active” monkey.

Mara first arrived at Indianapolis Zoo back in 2023, having been a lone monkey living in a zoo in Puerto Rico. After some initial teething problems, Mara soon settled into her new surroundings, as zookeepers said: “Everyone at the Indianapolis Zoo is committed to ensuring that Mara has a great life here.

“She creates a new bed each night with fresh clean blankets and hay and loves her fruits and veggies,” they added. She will be well loved and cared for and will soon be part of a great community of chimpanzees!”
