NFL head coach retains his job regardless of playoff failure… however says he’ll axe his teaching workers
Todd Bowles will remain head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to reports, despite missing out on the playoffs this season.
After winning just two of their final nine games, the Bucs failed to clinch a fifth consecutive NFC South title and missed out on the post-season altogether.
It raised questions over Bowles’ future with the franchise, which was further fueled by the Baltimore Ravens‘ decision to part ways with head coach John Harbaugh.
However, according to reports, Tampa Bay’s owners, the Glazer family, are still backing Bowles and want him to remain in the role heading into next season.
There will, however, be a number of changes to his coaching team for the 2026 season, which he confirmed to the Tampa Bay Times on Wednesday.
The outlet report that Bowles met with the Glazer family on Tuesday and had scheduled further interviews with coaches on Wednesday.

The 2026 season will be Bowles’ fifth at the helm in Tampa Bay, after he recently signed a three-year extension that runs until the 2028 season.
Despite their calamitous season this year, there was still a chance that the Bucs sealed a playoff berth with a win over the Panthers in their final game.
Tampa Bay did get the job done but unfortunately, after the Falcons beat the Rams and the Saints, it brought a brutal end to their 2025 season.
Under Bowles’ guidance, the Bucs have won three NFC South titles over the years.
However, his overall record leaves a lot to be desired. Tampa Bay have a 35-33 record during Bowles’ four seasons in charge.
This year, the Bucs got off to a blistering 6-2 start and there was talk of quarterback Baker Mayfield being a potential MVP candidate come the end of the season.
However, the signal caller suffered a number of injuries and struggled to find his best form in the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, the likes of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Bucky Irving also suffered injuries and missed multiple games for the franchise.
