Sainsbury’s has issued an urgent recall for its slow cooked lamb shoulder after discovering it contains an undeclared allergen not listed on the packaging.
The supermarket chain is pulling the product from shelves due to undeclared milk being used during preparation of the meat joint. Shoppers who have purchased Sainsbury’s Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder with Redcurrant Honey & Rosemary Glaze are being urged to bring the item back to stores.
The affected lamb shoulder weighs 400g and carries a use-by date of January 21, 2026. The product contains milk, which has not been declared on the labelling. This makes the item a potential health hazard for anyone suffering from a milk allergy or intolerance to milk components.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) stated: “Sainsbury’s is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to customers and the attached notice explains to customers the reason for the recall and how to return products purchased.”
Under UK regulations, food packaging must clearly display all allergens contained within the product.
The FSA warned concerned shoppers: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it.
“Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We are advising customers who purchased this product not to eat it and return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store.
