Golden Globes 2026 reside: Red carpet kicks off awkwardly as star pressured to right photographers who shout incorrect title

The 83rd Golden Globes red carpet got off to a cringe worthy start after photographers shouted ‘Megan!’ at famous Icelandic singer Laufey on Sunday night.

‘My name isn’t Megan,’ she replied, awkwardly laughing off the blunder.

The Golden Globe Awards are set to kick off awards season as A-listers descend on the Red Carpet for one of the biggest nights in Hollywood.

Comedian Nikki Glaser is hosting the show for a second time at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, which starts at 8pm ET/5pm PT.

While the stars are waiting to see who will take home awards in film and television, the Golden Globes launched a new category this year – Best Podcast.

However, the new category is already causing controversy after the Golden Globes failed to nominate any conservative podcasters, even though they topped the charts.

Laufey corrects Golden Globes photographers

Icelandic singer Laufey (pronounced ‘Lay-Vay’) corrected red carpet photographers who were calling her the wrong name.

Photographers shouted ‘Megan’ at the singer as she posed for the cameras wearing an orange dress.

‘My name isn’t Megan,’ she said back with a laugh.

Golden Globes unveils controversial new award

For the first time in its 83-year history, the Golden Globes will award a Best Podcast statuette tonight.

The Golden Globes announced the inaugural category back in May, creating speculation about the potential nominees.

However, powerhouse conservative figures like Megyn Kelly, Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Ben Shapiro were snubbed despite topping the charts.

Rogan’s show, The Joe Rogan Experience, has dominated Spotify for the last six years, ranking number one globally.

The reigning podcaster has also held the top spot on Apple Podcasts and YouTube, yet he did not snag a nomination.

Rogan was originally one of 25 who made the shortlist for the new addition to the Golden Globes.

The nominees are ‘Call Her Daddy’ hosted by Alex Cooper, ‘Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard,’ ‘Good Hang With Amy Poehler,’ ‘The Mel Robbins Podcast,’ NPR’s ‘Up First,’ and ‘Smartless’ by Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes.
