Packers make determination on way forward for head coach Matt LaFleur after heartbreaking playoff loss to the Bears

The Green Bay Packers are set to stick with head coach Matt LaFleur despite their heartbreaking playoff defeat to the Chicago Bears on Saturday night.

Caleb Williams and Co. delivered the crushing blow to LaFleur and the Packers after helping lead Chicago to a 31-27 at Soldier Field during Wild Card Weekend.

The defeat was made worse by the fact the Packers surrendered an 18-point lead on the night following a stunning fourth-quarter comeback by the home side.

LaFleur has just one year remaining on his current deal in Green Bay and, despite their devastating loss, Packers chiefs are set to stick by him.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers are expected to work out a deal in the coming days to keep LaFleur in Green Bay.

During his time in charge, the Packers have reached the playoffs in six of his seven seasons but have failed to make it to a Super Bowl during that time.

After working as an offensive coordinator with the Titans, LaFleur arrived in Green Bay in 2019 and has lead the team to a 76-40-1 record since then.

Following the defeat against the Bears on Saturday, LaFleur outlined his intentions to stay with the Packers.

Speaking to reporters, he said: ‘Of course [I want to return]. This is one of one. I love this place. I love the people. As much as you guys drive me nuts sometimes, I love you guys. I love our players, the locker room, everybody in our organization.

‘I mean, this is a unique place. The community has been outstanding. I grew up in the Midwest and it’s got the same type of vibe that I grew up [with] in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

He continued: ‘Unless you’re from here, you don’t understand, I think, how friendly everybody is. And it’s nice no matter who you are, you’re walking down the street, and people say hello to one another. I’ve lived other places, so I think this is a unique place, this is a special place. My kids love it here, my family loves it here.’

Franchise quarterback Jordan Love also offered his take on LaFleur’s future. He said: ‘Yeah, I definitely think Matt should be the head coach. I’ve got a lot of love for Matt. I think he does a great job. And that’s it’.

Following the end of the regular season, there have been a number of coaching changes that are set to shake up the rest of the NFL.

The likes of John Harbuagh, Mike McDaniel and Kevin Stefanski were all fired by their respective teams and have been lined up for interviews with other teams since then.
