Donald Trump is weighing up whether to order military action in support of protesters against the Iranian regime as mass demonstrations continue despite a bloody crackdown by security services.

UK ministers have backed away from the idea of direct Western involvement, with Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander saying Labour wanted a ‘peaceful transition’ of power.

But Kemi Badenoch supports military intervention, saying the US was right to consider military force, hailing the ‘extraordinary’ protests which have broken out in the past fortnight.

The Conservative leader indicated that she would back RAF strikes against the Iranian regime as part of a ‘broad coalition’ of countries led by the US.

Anti-government protests were triggered by anger over rampant inflation, but quickly escalated to calls for the departure of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran has threatened reprisals against any Western intervention, but do you think the UK should get involved? Cast your vote in the Daily Mail’s latest poll of the day:

In the last poll, Mail readers were asked: ‘Should the two-child benefit cap only be lifted for families with UK-born parents working full-time?‘ Out of more than 28,000 votes, 90 per cent of you said ‘yes’ and 10 per cent said ‘no’.
