Shamed trainer informed scholar she had ‘scorching attractive physique’ and gave teenagers condoms as items
The Teaching Regulation Agency said that Ian Shilling, 41, showed ‘no remorse’ for his behaviour and displayed a ‘calculated course of action’ for his own sexual gratification
A pervert teacher has been banned from the profession after it was found out he told one pupil she had the “hottest, sexiest body”. Ian Shilling, the head of music at Newlands Girls’ School in Maidenhead, also allegedly bombarded other students with explicit images and gifts.
The 41-year-old reportedly abused his position of trust. A school panel consequently blasted him for a preplanned pattern of behaviour aimed at flirting with the youngsters.
They revealed that he had even handed out condoms and sent a Valentine’s Day card with an inappropriate message, clearly showing he had no shame. The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) didn’t hold back, calling his actions “not a momentary lapse of judgment but a calculated course of action” for his own sexual gratification.
In a written statement, Shilling said he was “deeply apologetic and upset for any hurt, anxiety or stress”, that he caused. But the TRA branded his words “self-serving” and said he failed to grasp the seriousness of his misconduct.
Shilling, who worked at the school between 2012 and 2020, also showed a “lack of genuine remorse” and remained a “risk to pupils”. He was slapped with a court-issued Sexual Risk Order in 2023 after an investigation into his behaviour at the school – but was never charged with a criminal offence, according to Thames Valley Police.
One particular offence noted how he placed his hands on the hips of a student wearing a bikini as they were in a swimming pool. Another said he touched a girl’s backside while posing for a photograph.
The TRA said Shilling, “continuously sent photographs of himself without clothing on which created an environment in which the pupils felt like they were expected to send similar photographs back”. A pupil bravely spoke out, revealed that Shilling called her face “stunningly perfect” and he admitted using “emotive” words with some girls.
Multiple victims confirmed they received explicit pictures from him, which he admitted sending, then quickly deleted and apologised for.
Another testimony from a former pupil found that the disgraced ex-teacher’s actions “affected her life” for a long time and that she felt “ashamed” and “embarrassed”.
The school said in a statement: “The safety of our students is our highest priority.
“As soon as safeguarding concerns were raised about a member of teaching staff, we acted immediately by suspending the individual and raising a report to the TRA.
“We are reassured by the resolution of this case and will continue to uphold the most rigorous safeguarding standards.”
