Brits spend greater than £6,500 a 12 months on salmon sperm facials and excessive magnificence developments
Survey of 2,000 Britons found youngsters are shelling out thousands on wellness and beauty products despite 94% saying we need to go back to basics
Young Brits are splashing out over £6,500 annually on extravagant wellness and beauty trends, according to a recent survey.
In the past, advice was simple: cleanse, tone, moisturise, hydrate adequately, and stay active. However, it appears this isn’t sufficient for today’s social media-savvy generation.
Nowadays, salmon sperm facials, collagen supplements, weight loss jabs, and mushroom powders are becoming increasingly popular. The study reveals that British women now fork out an average of £554 each month to feel and look their best.
Men aren’t trailing far behind, spending £431 on a variety of wellness products – despite 94% of Brits surveyed suggesting we need to return to simpler health and wellness routines.
Almost half of the 2,000 individuals surveyed reported having a regular self-care routine, with 37% using skin-enhancing collagen and 31% taking multi-vitamin tablets or even injections. Yet, more than half (52%) of those under 40 admit they find it overwhelming trying to keep pace with contemporary wellness and beauty trends, while a quarter confess they’re overspending in their quest to look younger and feel better, reports the Mirror.
Collagen supplements (49%) were identified as the most purchased product in recent years, followed by probiotic skincare (36%). However, nearly a quarter (23%) confessed they’ve been tricked into buying the latest wellness product, only to be utterly disappointed by its purported benefits.
Nearly two-thirds (68%) of Brits often reflect on the health routines of their parents and grandparents, which typically involved nothing more than a balanced diet and regular exercise. A whopping 79% believe that self-care was a much simpler affair 25 years ago, according to a survey by Pukka herbs.
The poll revealed that older generations adhered to basic health principles such as getting a good night’s sleep (72%), drinking plenty of water (65%), and enjoying fresh air (52%). In line with this back-to-basics approach, an impressive 92% of respondents agreed that being closer to nature benefits their physical and mental health, with nearly half (47%) making a point to spend at least an hour outdoors every day.
Eleonora Zoani, Senior Herbal Blending Manager at Pukka, which is launching a ‘Nothing Beats Nature’ campaign, said: “From expensive “miracle” remedies to artificial products, we’re living in a time where our modern wellness routines have become a source of overwhelm and just another thing to fit into our busy everyday lives. There was once a time when things were simpler, and the blueprint for feeling well in body and mind was more accessible. Reconnecting with nature and embracing the daily consumption of herbal teas, allows us to harness the benefits that herbs have to offer.”
