Disabled girl raped twice by ‘evil’ knife-wielding plumber tells of horrifying ordeal

WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: Mandy Gilchrest, 52, braved waived her right to anonymity after she was brutally raped twice by Kevin Wyatt, 41, who was carrying out work at her rented home

A disabled woman has told how she was brutally raped twice by an ‘evil’ plumber in her own home. Mandy Gilchrest, 52, let Kevin Wyatt, 41, into her house when he turned up unexpectedly saying he needed to get serial numbers for pipes ahead of fixing a leak the next day.

Mandy – who has been disabled since birth – was then verbally and physically abused and had a knife held to her neck in the unprovoked four-hour attack. Details of her ordeal in June last year were heard during a trial at Manchester Crown Court in November 2025.

Jurors heard how Wyatt also forced her out of her wheelchair twice before raping her. And due to a blood condition – Factor V Leiden that makes your blood more prone to clotting – Wyatt’s hand marks and the bruises he caused are still present on her skin which she says act as a ‘chilling reminder’ of what he did to her.

Wyatt, of no fixed address, was jailed for a minimum of 12 and a half years last month after pleading guilty to two counts of rape, robbery, false imprisonment, and threatening a person with a knife. Mandy, from Clayton, Manchester, has bravely waived her legal right to anonymity to encourage other victims to speak out against violence against women.

As Mandy rents privately and it was her landlord who sent Wyatt she is also calling laws to enforce them to perform criminal checks on contractors. It comes as Wyatt was previously jailed for rape in 2010, the court heard.

She said: “It was like I was watching a horror movie, it didn’t feel real. Scenarios were running through my head which I didn’t want to happen yet they did.

“I have lived in my house for 13 years and now I hate living here – I can no longer go into my living room at all. I can’t have anyone stand behind me out of fear they have a knife.

“I don’t know if I will ever be the same. If it were my choice he wouldn’t be able to leave prison as he is an evil man.”

Mandy first met Wyatt on Friday June, 27, after he came round to her house alongside another colleague to complete various odd jobs in her bathrooms.

Mandy has told how she has had workmen round her house since November 2024 – after she reported her landlord to the Environment Agency when her living room ceiling fell in – so she “thought nothing of him”.

And after he had completed the work, Wyatt told Mandy they would be back around on Monday to continue with other jobs.

Mandy said: “He didn’t seem any different to any of the other workmen who have been around. He was polite, said please and thank you – I had no reason to fear him at all.”

But on Sunday June 29, Mandy said Wyatt turned up at her door at around 5 pm asking if he could come in and get serial numbers for pipes he needed to continue the work the next day.

Mandy said: “I let him in and he went and he got the numbers. He then was talking me through what he was planning to do with the sink.

“I then offered him a can of Coke to which he agreed and as I turned my back to him it all began.” Mandy said Wyatt gripped her face covering her mouth and placed a steak knife against her throat.

She said: “I was terrified – it all happened so quickly. He was telling me to ‘shut up’ and ‘do as I was told’ so I wouldn’t get hurt.

“It was at that point that I knew exactly what was going to happen. I was pleading with him, saying it doesn’t have to be like this, we can be friends, anything to try and stop it.

“He had also pushed my keys and phone into the back of my tall media unit so I couldn’t reach them – I was helpless.”

Mandy said Wyatt then pushed her into her living room and told her to get out of her wheelchair and onto her couch. She said: “At the point his eyes had glossed over, I have never seen anything like it before.”

Mandy said as she slid herself out of her chair and onto the couch Wyatt “ripped her trousers down” and then raped her.

She said: ” I had my eyes closed – I was in tears as he was hurting my legs moving them into positions they couldn’t like a ragdoll.

“He was grabbing onto my ribs tightly, which left me with bruises and handprints. He was still telling me to ‘shut up’ so I wouldn’t alert the neighbours – he was fully aware of what he was doing.”

Then at around 7 pm, Wyatt raped her again after helping her get back dressed and holding her hand while she used her GTN heart spray to help deal with chest pains caused by a heart condition.

Wyatt then demanded that she take him to the nearest cash machine to withdraw some money at around 8:15 pm – he would later use the cash to buy a taxi home to Middleton, Manchester, the court heard.

Mandy then went with Wyatt – who still had the knife in his pocket – to the cash machine and withdrew £120. Strangely Mandy recalls Wyatt being “friendly” to her following both rapes helping her get back changed but he “never apologised” for his actions.

When they arrived back to Mandy’s house he locked her inside, where she thought he was going to “attack her again” or “kill her”. Mandy said he eventually left at 9 pm and she called her sister later that night who then called the Greater Manchester Police.

Wyatt was later arrested and sentenced on November 6 to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 12 and a half years. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Wyatt was previously jailed for 10 years in 2010 after raping a woman.

Mandy is now calling for a change in law to make it mandatory for landlords to perform a CBR (Criminal Records Bureau) or DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check on contractors entering properties.

She said: “I don’t think what happened to me would have happened if it were mandatory. I wouldn’t now have to live in pain and suffering following his actions – something needs to change.”

Mandy is currently crowdfunding to raise money for a stair lift which she says the council adaptation teams say she doesn’t qualify for. You can donate here: Donate to Are you able to help Mandy feel safer after her attack, organized by Debbie Kirkpatrick.
