5,000 residents are instructed to evacuate their properties and faculty is closed after two unexploded WW2 bombs are found throughout Devon

Homes have been evacuated after two unexploded World War Two bombs have been discovered in Devon.

A 400m cordon has been put in place after an ‘unexploded wartime device’ was dredged from the water at Exmouth Marina.

Around 5,000 people have been evacuated from 2,000 properties in the surrounding area.

Residents in the area said a large number of police went door-to-door telling people to leave their homes.

Displaced people have been encouraged to stay with friends or family where possible or visit an assistance centre at Exmouth LED Leisure Centre.

A spokesperson for East Devon District Council said: ‘Please avoid the marina area and follow instructions from emergency services who are working tirelessly to keep people safe.’

Meanwhile in Plymouth a 110lb German World War Two bomb was found in a building site.

Members of the public were told to avoid the area around Martin Street in the city.

Last night police declared a major incident and opened an Evacuation Assembly Point at Plymouth Cathedral
