A3 closed as three free horses killed after being hit by HGV and automobile on carriageway

A road closure was put in place between the A247 at Burntcommon and the B2039 at Ockham this morning after a collision involving a lorry, a car and three horses

Three horses have been killed prompting the closure of the A3 northbound just beyond Guildford.

The road was shut down between the A247 (Burntcommon) and the B2039 (Ockham) on Thursday morning (January 15) following a collision that involved a large goods vehicle.

Surrey Police officers were called to the scene around 1.40am after receiving reports of two horses running loose and colliding with a lorry on the A3. Shortly afterwards, another call reported a separate collision involving a car and a horse.

Sadly, officers found three horses had died at the scene. The drivers of both vehicles are currently being questioned as part of ongoing investigations.

The road remains temporarily closed with diversions in place while Highways England clears the scene. Drivers are warned to plan alternative routes and expect delays of up to an hour, reports Surrey Live.
