Election guru predicts stunning midterms ‘wipeout’ as all eyes flip to the Senate

Former Democratic strategist James Carville has predicted a ‘wipeout’ for Republicans at the 2026 midterms.

Carville forecast a startling loss for Republicans in the upcoming midterms, with Democrats managing to pick up a ‘minimum’ of 25 seats and likely regain control of the Senate.

‘Frankly, it’s going to be a wipeout,’ Carville told Fox News‘ Kayleigh McEnany on Saturday in America.

‘Your viewers need to know that the Democrats are going to pick up at a minimum 25 seats, maybe as high as 45. In all likelihood, the Democrats will carry the Senate.’

The pair had discussed a recent op-ed piece in the New York Times by David Plouffe, which conversely predicted a grim future for Democrats.

‘Right now, Democrats have no credible path to sustained control of the Senate and the White House,’ Plouffe wrote.

Plouffe, a former senior advisor to former President Obama, predicted that the expected adjustments to the Electoral College map would have dire effects on a Democratic presidential candidate come 2028.

‘After the adjustments to the Electoral College map that look likely to come with the next census, the Democratic presidential nominee could win all the states won by Kamala Harris, plus the blue wall of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and still fall short of the 270 electoral votes needed to win,’ Plouffe wrote.

‘An already unforgiving map becomes more so.’

McEnany countered Carville’s ‘bold’ stance by pointing out that an ‘economic revival’ expected from the Trump Administration would secure a Republican win in the midterms

Plouffe’s encouragement for the Democrats was advising a completely ‘fresh agenda’ instead of the ‘same recipes, slightly warmed over.’

The Fox News host countered Carville’s ‘bold’ stance by pointing out that an ‘economic revival’ expected from the Trump Administration would secure a Republican win in the midterms.

‘Well, I guess anything is possible,’ Carville responded.

The former strategist then condemned the president’s comments earlier this week, after Trump suggested there was no need for an election due to the administration’s accomplishments.

President Trump also feared that if Democrats regain control come the midterms, he would certainly be impeached.

Following the comments from Trump, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made it clear that the president was ‘joking’ to reporters on Friday.

‘The president was simply joking. He was saying we’re doing such a great job. We’re doing everything the American people thought, maybe we should just keep rolling, but he was facetiously,’ she declared.

McEnany similarly remarked to Carville that the comments made were ‘in jest.’

In a separate segment, Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters argued that the Republican’s ‘secret weapon’ would allow the party to ‘defy history.’

It is typically uncommon for the party in power to perform well at midterm elections.

‘Our secret weapon is President Trump,’ Gruters declared. ‘He’s accomplished more in this first 12 months than most presidents accomplished in eight years.’
