Donald Trump’s hand bruise ‘sparked by fragile ageing’ after ‘traditional dementia indicators’

Donald Trump was seen with a huge blue bruise on his left hand during a ceremony for his ‘Board of Peace’ earlier today, which is just one more sign that he’s getting very, very old

US President Donald Trump was sporting another huge bruise on his hand earlier today.

Hand bruising could be caused by taking some everyday medications, but it could also be a sign of ageing as the skin gets more fragile, a pharmacist has revealed. It also comes after Trump’s mental competency is questioned, after mixing up Greenland and Iceland four times during his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) yesterday.

Trump’s hand was photographed several times during a signing ceremony for his new vanity project – his ‘Board of Peace’ – in Davos earlier today. The back of his left hand was overshadowed by a large bruise that stretched from the knuckle of his middle finger all the way down to the base of his thumb.

The outskirts of the bruise were a soft red, whereas the centre was a black-blue colour. The back of his hand and fingers also appeared slightly puffy.

The White House claimed the bruise was caused by the President knocking his hand on the table at the signing event. It also previously claimed he was more susceptible to bruising as he takes daily aspirin tablets.

“At the Board of Peace event today in Davos, President Trump hit his hand on the corner of the signing table, causing it to bruise,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. The bruising wasn’t noticeable at the start of the event, but seemingly developed over the course of 10 minutes, or so.

Bruising easily becomes more common when people get older, a pharmacist told the Mirror. People with more fragile skin were most susceptible to bruises, but it could also be caused by something more serious.

Pharmacist and health expert Thorrun Govind said: “Our skin becomes more fragile skin as we get older. In most cases it isn’t serious, but repeated or unexplained bruising should be checked.

“As we get older, the skin becomes thinner and loses some of the protective fat that cushions blood vessels underneath. Small blood vessels can break more easily. This means even a minor knock can lead to noticeable bruising, particularly on areas like the hands and arms.”

If the President was taking a daily aspirin pill, like the White House claimed, it could also lead to bruising easily, she added. “Aspirin can make bruising more likely, because it slows the body’s ability to stop bleeding after minor knocks.

“Bruising like this is often caused by minor knocks, but medicines such as aspirin can make bruises larger or more noticeable.”

Ms Leavitt had also previously claimed that Trump’s bruising was caused by “tissue damage from frequent handshaking”. A bruise on the president’s hand appeared during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in February last year, after a particularly strong handshake. But, the latest bruise appeared on his left hand, which isn’t the hand Trump usually shakes hands with.

Meanwhile, Trump’s mental competency has also been questioned again, after he mistook Greenland for Iceland on four occasions during yesterdays’ WEF speech in Davos.

He said: “[NATO is] not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. I mean, our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland has already cost us a lot of money. But that dip is peanuts compared to what it’s gone up.”

He later added: “I’m helping Europe. I’m helping NATO. And until the last few days, when I told them about Iceland, they loved me.”

Trump’s mental competence had been questioned plenty of times previously over similar mistakes. The president has showed “the classic signs of dementia” in his speeches, according to psychologist and former Johns Hopkins professor Dr John Gartner.

He told PennLive last year: “Basically, what we see are the classic signs of dementia, which is gross deterioration from someone’s baseline and function. That’s very important because one of the areas that we can most physically see this is in his verbal productions.

“If you go back and look at film from the 1980s, he actually was extremely articulate. He was still a jerk, but he was able to express himself in polished paragraphs, and now he really has trouble completing a thought and that is a huge deterioration.

“His vocabulary has deteriorated, but also he has started to show very specific signs of phonemic paraphasia for example where he routinely can’t say an English word so he substitutes a non-word that is easier to pronounce that sounds like it.”

“But the point is that it’s going to get worse. That’s my prediction.”

Last year, Trump claimed he “aced” tests linked to his brain function. His physician also said he was in “excellent overall health” after a medical examination.
