UK to snub Donald Trump’s ‘board of peace’ after Vladimir Putin cause
Yvette Cooper said the UK will not be one of the signatories to Donald Trump’s board of peace today – saying there are concerns about Vladimir Putin being invited
The UK will not be part of Donald Trump’s Board of Peace because Vladimir Putin was invited.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the Government has concerns about the Russian warmonger’s inclusion in the US President’s plan. The US President is setting up the board as part of his plan to end the Israel-Hamas war.
He confirmed that he had asked Putin to take part. Ms Cooper told BBC Breakfast: “We won’t be one of the signatories today because this is about a legal treaty that raises much broader issues and we do also have concerns about President Putin being part of something which is talking about peace when we have still not seen any signs from Putin that there will be a commitment to peace in Ukraine.
“And to be honest, that is also what we should be talking about.”
However the Foreign Secretary said the UK strongly supports the US President’s 20-point plan for peace in the Middle East. He is seeking to highlight his proposals at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The Kremlin has said it is assessing the offer to join the board. On Monday, asked if Putin had been given an invite, Mr Trump said: “Yes… these are world leaders. The answer is yes, I did.”
