Homeowners left red-faced after being caught within the buff by property brokers

Potential buyers are getting more than they bargained for after an eyebrow raising study revealed thousands of homeowners are being caught in the nude during viewings

If you have been caught with your pants down midway through a house viewing, you are definitely not alone. Thousands of men have been caught stark naked by estate agents showing people around their home.

Some 10% of chaps claim they were surprised by a key-jangling agent walking in on them while they were in the buff. The eyebrow-raising findings come from a new study commissioned by online estate agents Purplebricks.

Worse still, more than one in 20 men have been discovered on the loo during a home visit. But as it turns out, women are a lot more prepared for these horror moments than men, research found.

Figures revealed by the online estate agency showed a regional breakdown of just where homeowners would be more likely to accidentally flash prospective buyers. It comes as the housing market continues to see problems, as house prices continue to rise with no sign of slowing down.

Researchers quizzed 2,000 Brits to identify the ways owners are better at selling than a paid professional — and the results were revealing. Women are better prepared, according to the study, with just a handful saying they’ve been caught without clothes (5%), but 4% have been interrupted on the loo.

A sixth (17%) of home sellers were surprised by an agent who arrived when they had guests at the house. Glaswegians were most likely to be caught in their birthday suit (13%) while Liverpudlians have had the most bad luck being caught on the loo (11%).

Purplebricks South of England Sales Director Tom Evans said: “Of course you want to leave a lasting impression on potential buyers — but only for the right reason. At Purplebricks, we strongly believe the best person to sell your home is YOU.

“That’s why we help our customers be brilliant at getting themselves and their house perfectly prepared for making the sale. Clothes are a good start!”

It comes as another survey revealed that not only do Brits get caught in the buff during incredibly important moments, they are also big fans of ditching clothes when it’s time for bed. Research found that around 1 in 4 Brits like to go to sleep completely stark naked.

Some Brits might be a smidge more prudish, with 31% of respondents to the survey, commissioned by mattress provider Happy Beds, admitting they like to sleep with just underwear on. But one expert explained that ditching clothes before getting some shuteye could actually be good for you.

Sleep expert Dr Katherine Hall said: “When you sleep your blood circulation increases regardless, but sleeping naked stops any clothing like socks or tight pyjamas from restricting blood flow. Remember that good blood circulation is crucial for your heart and muscles.”
