ICE in Minneapolis sparks ‘new layer of hell’ after five-year-old detained by masked thugs

Minnesota residents describe fear and heartbreak in the wake of reports that ICE agents used a 5-year-old as “bait” to draw a family member out of their home

A local woman said that Minneapolis has entered a “new layer of hell” following reports that a five-year-old boy was detained by ICE.

ICE sparked widespread scrutiny earlier this week after reports claimed a young boy had been detained in Minnesota and used as “bait” to lure family members from their home. An official from The Columbia Heights Public School District said that five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was stopped by masked individuals in his driveway as he arrived home from school with his father.

Neighbour Vanessa Mullenix said: “We have entered a new layer of hell, now that ICE is targeting children, and using kids as pawns to get their families out of their homes. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.”

Vice President JD Vance visited Minnesota the same day and defended the move in a speech, saying that the child had not been detained and that his apprehension was part of a wider operation to arrest his father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias.

“So the story is that ICE detained a five-year-old? Well, what are they supposed to do? Are they supposed to let a five-year-old child freeze to death?” Vance asked. “Are they not supposed to arrest an illegal alien in the United States of America?”

Mullenix, who also hails from Columbia Heights, expressed her utter horror at the situation, saying: “I’m worried for my family, my friends, and my neighbours.” Another woman added that one local school has moved all operations to online learning in order to protect the students who do not feel safe coming to school. She said that the move should not have been necessary in the first place.

The Columbia Heights Public School District confirmed to the media yesterday that four of its students have been detained by federal agents in four separate instances over the past two weeks. Mullenix and her neighbour, Kelly Tromsten, said the community was struggling to process the atrocities that have catapulted their city onto the world stage.

“It’s been horrifying to watch them twist everything around,” Tromsten said. “We’re all watching the same video. The twisting of the narrative is the most disgusting thing of it all. I don’t know how anyone can look at these videos and say, ‘Well, we need to see more.’ What more do you need to see?”
