Urgent recall issued over warnings child components has ‘toxin’ inflicting vomiting

Batches of the much-loved and much-trusted baby formula brand have been dispatched, despite the risk of having a potentially dangerous chemical that could cause major problems

One of Britain’s best-loved baby formula brands has issued an urgent recall of its product. This is due to concerns that the baby formula could in fact have hidden “toxins” that could induce vomiting for poor babies.

Aptamil has reported safety concerns in one batch of its renowned baby formula, asking it to be pulled from the shelves. They added that anyone who may be affected reach out and return the product as quickly as possible, so as to avoid suffering food poisoning symptoms.

Following the notice, health shops and supermarkets alike are asking customers to bring back the formula, whether there is a receipt for the product or not. Those who cannot do so are being told to throw the batch out immediately.

According to the Sun, only one batch has been contaminated with cereulide — a dangerous toxin that is produced by the Bacillus cereus pathogen — was found. The affected batched have an expiry date of October 31, 2026, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Parents who have bought the contaminated product with the matching expiry date are being asked to bring the product back to the shop with or without a receipt if they have not opened it. If they have opened it, however, they are advised to throw it away as soon as possible.

Any concerned mums and dads who have accidentally provided the contaminated batch to their child are being urged to speak to their GPs if their baby starts to feel unwell. Thankfully, only one batch which had the toxic material was shared around the UK, but several others were distributed abroad.

Speaking on the contaminated batch, Darren Whitby from the FSA explained: “We want to make parents, guardians and caregivers aware that Danone has recalled a batch of Aptamil First Infant Formula (800g). Only one batch sold in the UK is affected.

“If you have purchased batch 31-10-2026 of Aptamil First Infant Formula 800g, with a best-before date of 31 October 2026, the FSA’s advice is that you should not feed infants or young children with this product,” he added. “If you have fed this product to a baby and have any concerns about potential health impact, you should seek advice from healthcare professionals by contacting your GP or by calling NHS111.”

Talking about the dangerous impact the toxin can have, Darren added: “Cereulide is a toxin produced by food poisoning bacteria Bacillus cereus and can cause food poisoning symptoms which can be quick to develop and include vomiting and stomach cramps. The advice from the NHS and the Department of Health and Social Care is to switch to a different formula.”

Boots added that if concerned parents wish to return the formula, they can do so with or without a receipt. It is believed the health supermarket had sold the products between May and July of 2025.

This is not the only recent recall of baby formula, after Nestlé pulled several of its baby formula products over health and safety concern. Specific batches of the SMA infant formula were also deemed to have a toxin causing food poisoning; although their distribution was more worldwide.
