Gregg Wallace fights again tears as he says he is ‘scared’ following MasterChef axe
The ex-cooking show host says his future outlook can shift from day-to-day as he tries to navigate his new situation in the wake of his very public dismissal
Gregg Wallace appeared close to tears as he admitted he gets ‘scared, nervous, anxious’ about his future following his MasterChef sacking.
The shamed presenter, who was fired from hosting the BBC’s cooking contest for inappropriate antics while making the show, admitted in a self-shot Instagram video his outlook could shift from day-to-day.
His voice breaking with emotion he said: “Some days I’m really strong, positive, optimistic. Other days I’m scared, nervous , anxious.
“And it can change from day-to-day, which is strange because the situation doesn’t change from day-to-day. I’m guessing I’m not alone in this. And it’s the scared bit of us that we need to work on.”
It comes a fortnight after Wallace, 61, posted a bizarre apology for his behaviour on media platform Substack in which he said it was never his ‘intention to make anyone feel uncomfortable’.
But he went on to joke about ‘spotted dick’ and claim his gags were no ruder than rival telly show Bake Off’s. The former greengrocer said show bosses had ‘encouraged’ his behaviour and no-one had ever told him to ‘pack it in’.
His latest emotional message triggered an outpouring of sympathy from many fans. One replied: “Good luck. Miss you on TV.”
Another wrote: “You’re absolutely not alone, stronger together. Have an inspired day you are blessed and a blessing to so many.”
“I’m not surprised you feel like this,” said one more. “Your whole world has been turned upside down. I am absolutely appalled at your treatment. We all make mistakes and go on to learn from them. This to me is bullying at its finest. One day the good days will outweigh the not so good days. So glad you have your beautiful family.”
Another fan said: “It’s all about recalibration Gregg. You’re having to adjust to a new way of living and working and earning.
“You’ll find a new level and that will become the norm. And that’s when you’ll feel consistently better! Stay strong.”
One more said: “If only all guys were open like this. Thanks for opening up and letting us know it’s ok to not be ok.”
Someone else commented: “When I think of what happened to you I do think you’ve been treated harshly. Especially when there are so many pervs and deviants in the higher echelons of society.
“I think you were a man from the 80’s living in the current day. Saucy banter which probably crossed modern day lines. “But enough to destroy your career? Seems harsh to me. But perhaps you should be bold and publish the investigation report? And let the public decide?”
However some dismissed his post. One wrote: “What you guffing about?”
Wallace was sacked by the BBC last July after a seven-month probe upheld 45 allegations made against him including inappropriate sexual language and humour, ‘being in a state of undress’ and one incident of unwelcome physical contact.
He has since tried to forge a new career as a personal trainer and broadcasts healthy recipes on TikTok.
His fellow MasterChef host John Torode, 60, was axed after the BBC upheld a complaint he used an ‘extremely offensive racist term’ during production – though he said he had ‘no recollection’ of it.
