Man Utd participant rankings vs Arsenal: Three 9/10s star as unbelievable win shocks leaders
Manchester United continued their impressive start under Michael Carrick with an incredible 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium
Manchester United maintained their fantastic form under Michael Carrick as they clinched consecutive victories against the Premier League’s leading duo with a memorable triumph at the Emirates Stadium.
It appeared United had survived Arsenal’s early onslaught when the home side broke the deadlock. It was a careless goal to give away, with Lisandro Martinez getting the decisive touch whilst tussling with Jurrien Timber in his six-yard area.
However, United’s reaction was superb and they pounced on an Arsenal defensive error to draw level. Martin Zubimendi’s pass presented the opportunity to Bryan Mbeumo, who rounded David Raya to find the net.
Carrick’s team then seized the advantage with a spectacular strike early in the second period. Dorgu set himself up brilliantly with some neat control before unleashing a magnificent volley that struck the crossbar and nestled in.
Mikel Merino appeared to have earned Arsenal a point only for Matheus Cunha to respond almost instantly. Here’s the Daily Star Sport’s player ratings.
Senne Lammens: Fine stops from Zubimendi and Saka and generally coped well with the aerial assault. Overwhelmed for the equaliser. 7 .
Diogo Dalot: Handled Trossard effectively and appears slightly more settled at right-back. The type of dependable and straightforward display he has required. 7 .
Harry Maguire: Certainly deserves a fresh contract if this form persists. Appeared the finest centre-half on the field, which truly speaks volumes. 9
Lisandro Martinez: Should have shown more strength against Timber for Arsenal’s opener. One solid block on Rice but Gyokeres caused him problems. 7 .
Luke Shaw: Defended brilliantly against Saka and remained alert throughout. Arsenal tried some clever play down that wing but Shaw was never caught out. 8 .
Casemiro: Made crucial contributions in his own penalty area from set-pieces and distributed the ball effectively. Another demonstration that he can still perform at the top level. 7 .
Kobbie Mainoo : Felt that United gained control when they found Mainoo more frequently. Building confidence under Carrick and provided the crucial late assist. 8 .
Amad: Delivered in-swinging corners with precision throughout. One poor decision on the counter in the opening period but persisted with his efforts. 7 .
Bruno Fernandes: A curious performance. Careless with several passes yet also showed moments of real menace and captained effectively when ahead. 7 .
Patrick Dorgu: Weak defensive header in the build-up to the opener but more than made up for it. A stunning strike to put United in front and continue his excellent form. 9 .
Bryan Mbeumo: Has now found the net against Liverpool, City and Arsenal. Finished his chance superbly and posed a constant threat with his movement and intelligent runs. 8 .
Substitutes:
Matheus Cunha: Found some excellent positions and looked lively after coming on. Absolutely magnificent strike. 9 .
Benjamin Sesko: Limited time to influence proceedings. 7 .
Noussair Mazraoui: Late introduction. 6 .
Subs not used: Bayindir, Yoro, Heaven, Malacia, Ugarte, Mount.
