Manchester United have had a quiet January in terms of transfer activity, with the Red Devils appearing more focused on strengthening their squad during the summer window. However, this hasn’t stopped the speculation from swirling.
While there was talk that Michael Carrick might delve into the market to boost his side’s chances of European qualification in the season’s second half, it now seems the interim manager will work with the players he took over from Ruben Amorim.

According to the I, Manchester United have put Adam Wharton at the summit of their midfield wishlist for the summer window. Casemiro is expected to depart Old Trafford at the end of the campaign, prompting the Red Devils to hunt for an adequate successor, reports the Mirror.
Crystal Palace are anticipated to seek between £60m and £70m for the 21-year-old central midfielder, considering he’s contracted until 2029 and is only beginning to reach his professional prime. Nevertheless, United are believed to view the player as a worthwhile investment.
Should Manchester United succeed in their chase, it would represent a significant setback for Palace, who have already seen Marc Guehi depart this month for Manchester City, whilst Jean-Philippe Mateta’s future at the club remains uncertain.
Kobbie Mainoo future
Whilst Kobbie Mainoo’s playing time was restricted under Amorim, it seems Carrick views him as integral to United’s future blueprint. The 20-year-old has managed only 13 league outings this campaign due to fierce competition.
However, reports now suggest that United are keen to extend his contract until 2031, as Carrick begins to give him more regular playing time to aid his development.
Sky Sports News indicate that the Red Devils are looking to reward Mainoo with a generous deal that recognises his value to the club, given his expected pivotal role in future seasons.
An Olympiacos gamble
According to the Mail, United view Christos Mouzakitis as a medium-term prospect as they seek to strengthen their midfield options.
The 19-year-old Greek has caught the eye at Olympiacos since breaking through their youth system in 2024.
With his current club preferring to keep hold of him until the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign, this could be another transfer to revisit next summer.
