Bizarre scenes as canine is seen DRIVING ute on a seaside – proprietor has his licence ripped up
A man has been stripped of his driver’s licence after he was accused of allowing his dog to ‘drive’ his ute while he sat in the passenger seat.
Several people walking along White Beach at Nubeena, south-east of Hobart, called police at about 9.30am on Saturday after spotting the bizarre sight.
‘Witnesses reported that a white Mitsubishi Triton was being driven on the beach, with a dog in the driver’s seat and a man in the passenger seat,’ a Tasmania Police spokesman said.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle at a property, with the dog and the 50-year-old man nearby.
The man has since been charged with driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
He has had his licence disqualified for 24 months and will face court in May.
Since the incident, the family of the accused published a video of a man and his dog at a home near White Beach on Monday, which was seen by Pulse Tasmania.
The man in the video could be seen holding a covered drink with a dog beside him, flipping his middle finger at the camera.

The family member uploaded the video onto social media alongside an article of initial news reports on the incident.
‘Who wants to meet the famous uncle … and the dog?’ a person said in the video.
The accused responded: ‘I’m having a beer.’
Police said they are investigating the incident and are keen to hear from further witnesses, particularly anyone who may have video footage or dashcam images.
