An England star who was fined over a drunken clash has been slammed for his “Stone Cold Steve Austin celebration”.
Harry Brook was slapped with a £30,000 fine by the ECB when he found himself in hot water after a scuffle with a bouncer outside a nightclub, having been refused entry for being intoxicated. This altercation came to light at the end of the Ashes, where England suffered a 4-1 defeat against Australia.
And Brook, once the altercation had come to light, said: “I want to apologise for my actions. I fully accept that my behaviour was wrong and brought embarrassment to both myself and the England team.
“Representing England is the greatest honour of all, which I take seriously and I am deeply sorry for letting down my team-mates, coaches and supporters.
“I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those representing your country.”
“I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both on and off the field. I apologise unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again.”
However, the England captain was back to his sparkling best against Sri Lanka – hitting a century, and choosing to celebrated in a cheeky way.
Brook, channelling WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin, who would often perform the taunt during entrance, pretending to smash two can’s of beer together and drink them.
The incident didn’t go unnoticed and some took to social media to slam the star: “The lack of self awareness and sense of responsibility is amazing…”
“Harry Brook is not old enough to remember Stone Cold wrestle,” a second said. And another added: “Sorry if that’s the case that’s hilarious. I demand Brook do his next presser as Stone Cold with journos chanting…WHAT!”
