95-year-old pensioner tied up in ‘vile’ tried theft by man who supplied to scrub her home windows

The man entered her property under the guise of cleaning her windows, but tied her hands together and demanded the woman hand over cash and her purse

A 95 year-old woman was tied up and threatened in an attempted robbery by a man who callously gained her trust by offering to clean her windows.

Police were called to an address on Belcroft Drive in Little Hulton in Salford at around 11am on Tuesday, January 27. Greater Manchester Police said it is believed that a man entered the property after offering to clean the woman’s windows.

The man tied her hands together and demanded the woman hand over cash and her purse, but was interrupted when one of the woman’s friends arrived at the house and confronted him.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the man fled the scene and the victim was unharmed.

No arrests have been made, but detectives said “extensive enquiries” are underway to identify and find the suspect.

Police have asked anyone with information or CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage that may help them, to come forward.

The suspect is believed to be white male in his late 60s or early 70s, GMP said.

“He had short mousy brown hair which was combed back, no facial hair, glasses, and appeared well-kempt. He was wearing a dark raincoat jacket, jeans and dark-coloured shoes,” the force added.

Patrols are being stepped up in the area as a response.

“This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened in an address, and we are determined to locate the man responsible,” Detective Inspector Paul Davies, from GMP’s Salford district, said.
