Horror doorbell footage captures ex-nurse in dressing robe flicking lit matches at home
Ring doorbell footage captured Magdaline Wangeci lighting and throwing three matches at her neighbour’s door in a ‘revenge’ attack in Ashford, Kent, as the family slept inside
A former nurse was caught on camera tossing lit matches at her neighbour’s front door while the family were asleep inside. The shocking footage captures Magdaline Wangeci, 49, igniting and hurling three matches at her neighbour’s door in Ashford, Kent, during the early hours of an October night last year.
Fortunately, a downpour ensured the matches were doused on the sodden doormat outside the residence.. Wangeci was subsequently charged with attempted arson, although no harm was done and nobody was injured in the incident, as reported by KentOnline.
The court heard the incident was described as a “revenge” arson attack after a feud with a woman who lived at the property. Ring doorbell video reveals Wangeci approaching her neighbour’s porch clad in her dressing gown and slippers.
She promptly strikes a match, which drops near her feet, before lighting two more and tossing them at the base of her neighbour’s door. Wangeci, who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to the offence at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecution said “There had been a build-up – there was some antagonistic behaviour between the parties in the run-up to this incident.
“It was a revenge attack. She went there with matches with the intent to light them, and lit three matches. There could have been catastrophic damage and risk of injury to those individuals (inside the home).”
A probation officer told the court Wangeci suffers from mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, for which she is medicated.
Magistrates were told Wangeci previously worked as a nurse and has about £30,000 of debt. She had been hoping to travel abroad for surgery.
After confessing to attempted arson, Wangeci was given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and a five-year restraining order against her neighbour.
She was also instructed to pay £85 in court fees and a £154 victim surcharge.
