Jurgen Klopp set for Liverpool return as legendary German supervisor will get new gig
Jurgen Klopp will return to Anfield for the first time since leaving Liverpool in a stunning return to his former club for one of the greatest managers in football history
Jurgen Klopp is poised to make his emotional Anfield comeback when the Liverpool Legends take on Borussia Dortmund in a charity fixture for the LFC Foundation this March.
The Reds’ legendary squad, skippered by the beloved Steven Gerrard on the day, will lock horns with their Dortmund counterparts on Saturday 28 March 2026, with all takings benefiting the club’s official charity.
Klopp serves as the Foundation’s honorary ambassador and has now been confirmed as part of the coaching setup against another of his former sides alongside Sir Kenny Dalglish during the March international break.

A devoted backer of LFC Foundation, Klopp, who currently serves as Red Bull’s global head of soccer, has repeatedly championed the charity’s work and appeared as a guest speaker at the LFC Foundation’s Gala Ball in the city’s Anglican Cathedral last May.
The heartfelt Anfield homecoming seems perfect for the celebrated Klopp given his deep connections to the day’s opponents BVB, whom he managed for seven years between 2008 and 2015, guiding them back to the summit of German football during that spell with two Bundesliga crowns and two DFB Pokals (German Cup).
Every penny from the Legends match will flow straight to the efforts of LFC Foundation and Forever Reds. This year, the funds raised will bolster the Foundation’s employability schemes, aiding individuals across the community to secure employment, earn qualifications and acquire new skills through mentoring and training.
The match will also contribute towards the Foundation’s long-term goal of assisting 500,000 people per season by 2030.
“The LFC Foundation does an incredible job in the community, both in the Liverpool City Region and beyond,” Klopp expressed in July 2024.
“I am really proud to continue my work with them and be named the first ever LFC Foundation honorary ambassador. I look forward to seeing what we can do with that now that I have more time on my hands.”
In 2023, Klopp also stated: “I am happy and proud to be an ambassador for the LFC Foundation.
“To have people listening to me is the best thing I can do to help our Foundation. All of the people who work for our Foundation do an incredible job, I love them all, because the things they are doing are just incredible.”
It’s such a wonderful organisation and the best thing a football club can do is to give people good moments, hope, belief and the knowledge that they are actually never alone. I enjoy each moment with the Foundation, it’s really great, so it’s win-win situation for all of us.”
