King Charles loves jacket potatoes – and his favorite spud is a Duke of York

King Charles, 77, revealed that his favourite type of potato is the Duke of York, named after his shamed brother. He said they’re ‘very good’ because of their crispy skins

King Charles has revealed he’s a huge jacket potato fan and his favourite type of spud is named after his estranged shamed brother.

The monarch recommended the Duke of York as a good choice of potato for baking in a new documentary about his love of nature. He said: “If you want to have a decent baked potato, which I love, you’ve got to have the crispy skins, so the red Duke of Yorks are very good.”

The potato seems to be the only Duke of York the king can stomach after he stripped brother Andrew Mountbatten Windsor of his remaining royal titles last year.

King Charles and Queen Camilla attended the film’s premiere held at Windsor Castle alongside celebrities Dame Judi Dench, Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Kenneth Branagh and Stanley Tucci. The King’s spokesman said that the unique 90-minute royal documentary, Finding Harmony – A King’s Vision, was without any gold carriages or glittering crowns.

Made in collaboration with his King’s Foundation charity, it looks at his decades-long campaigning to protect the natural world.

The monarch, 77, said: “It all boils down to the fact that we are actually nature ourselves. We are a part of it, not apart from it, which is really how things are being presented for so long.”

The documentary will be screened on Amazon’s Prime Video next month.

It follows reports last week that Donald Trump backed down from his controversial comments about British troops’ involvement in Afghanistan after the King raised his concerns. The US President described British soldiers as “among the greatest of all warriors” last Saturday (January 24) following a ferocious backlash after claiming UK and Nato troops were not on the frontline in Afghanistan.

His backtracking came after Charles’ concerns were passed to the White House through ‘private backchannels’, it was claimed.
