Gary Anderson explodes in sweary rant at ‘tossers’ darts influencers and YouTubers

Gary Anderson launched a blistering foul-mouthed attack on darts influencers as he branded the individuals in the scene as ‘absolute tossers’ following his World Masters win

Gary Anderson has unleashed a blistering attack on darts influencers, branding the whole scene a “load of b*******”.

The two-time world champion exploded at “absolute tossers” after his opening-round victory over Niels Zonneveld at the Winmau World Masters. Anderson fought to victory over the Dutchman in a nail-biting deciding set, but appeared even more agitated afterwards about the rising tide of social media personalities infiltrating the sport.

Anderson didn’t hold back on his feelings about the state of the social media side of darts, but he didn’t name the individuals he was talking about.

‘The Flying Scotsman’ fumed: “I’m a darts player, I’m not here to sit and talk and tell stories. And when I do, I usually get into trouble. I don’t do YouTube, but I’m watching. We’ve got, what do you call them? Influencers? How to play darts.

“I’ve never seen the bloke in my life, I’ve watched him play darts, he’s absolutely rank at it. So why watch him? Kids need to learn they can go buy a set of darts that cost you £10, £20, £40, £50, instead of spending hundreds of pounds on darts. And play the game. Influencers? What a load of b*******. Absolutely tossers.”

“How many times do you watch boys on YouTube? Do you want to play like a pro? Who is he? They actually know about darts, do they?”

“It’s a load of rubbish. For young kids, it ain’t good. Just let them play darts and enjoy. Buy a £20 set of darts and go and enjoy your game of darts. End of. Easy.”

Anderson had to battle hard to overcome Zonneveld, with his lack of recent competitive action proving problematic as he admitted: “It’s the first time since the Worlds. I’m going to be a bit rusty.”

His journey to the World Championship semi-finals was a revival, but he insists it’s irrelevant now as he clarified: “No, I sleep at night, and I wake up in the morning and it’s all disappeared. I can’t remember a thing. This is a new year. It can only get better I hope.”
