Iran pledges ‘crushing response’ to Donald Trump threats as fears of WW3 skyrocket

As tensions escalate in the Middle East, Iran has hit back at US threats of a potential strike by warning Washington they will retaliate with a ‘crushing response’ to any attacks

Iran has threatened to deliver a “crushing response” to any attack after Donald Trump warned time is running out for the country to strike a nuclear deal.

The vow comes as the Iranian group Hezbollah warned a US attack will trigger “a volcano in the region” while protests across Iran have descended into chaos as the state violently clamps down on descent.

According to state television, Iran’s army chief Amir Hatami on Thursday vowed to deliver a “crushing response” to any attack against the country. The tensions come after a US naval strike group arrived in Middle East waters on Monday, as Trump warned the US was “ready, willing and able” to hit Iran “if necessary”.

On Wednesday the President ramped up his threats against Iran and said “’time is running out” for Iran to negotiate a deal over its nuclear programme – which the US believe could lead to Iran building a nuclear weapon.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, warned on X, Iran’s forces were ready to retaliate against a potential US strike. He said: “Our brave Armed Forces are prepared – with their fingers on the trigger – to immediately and powerfully respond to ANY aggression against our beloved land, air, and sea. The valuable lessons learned from the 12-Day War have enabled us to respond even more strongly, rapidly, and profoundly.”

The Iranian official denied US claims the country was using their nuclear program to make a nuclear weapon and welcomed a potential deal.

The Araghchi added: “At the same time, Iran has always welcomed a mutually beneficial, fair and equitable NUCLEAR DEAL – on equal footing, and free from coercion, threats, and intimidation – which ensures Iran’s rights to PEACEFUL nuclear technology, and guarantees NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

“Such weapons have no place in our security calculations and we have NEVER sought to acquire them.”

A senior Hezbollah official, Nawaf al-Moussawi, has cautioned the impact of a US strike on Iran would lead to an unpredictable outcome of events. The official added this unpredictability was what was holding the US back from striking the Middle Eastern country. Al-Moussawi said: “What holds the United States back is its inability to predict the aftermath of the strike.”

When the Hezbollah official was questioned if the military group would support Iran, if it was attacked, al-Moussaw said: “We will cross that bridge when we get to it.”

A Gulf official, which host US military sites, warned fears of a US strike on Iran are “very clear” and predicted the ongoing tension will impact the economy after an attack from Washington.

The official told AFP: “It would bring the region into chaos, it would hurt the economy not just in the region but in the US and cause oil and gas prices to skyrocket.”
