Liverpool open switch talks with Inter however compelled to attend on Nottingham Forest deal

Liverpool star Curtis Jones is reportedly a player of interest to Serie A giants Inter Milan ahead of transfer deadline day

Liverpool star Curtis Jones is being linked with a move away from Anfield in the final days of the January transfer window. The Reds have been heavily linked with several potential new signings, but the latest rumour suggests there may be a departure before Monday’s deadline.

Arne Slot’s side are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table and will face Newcastle United on Saturday night at Anfield.

Slot will be hoping to have Jones in the matchday squad for the clash against Magpies, with the midfielder missing the win over Qarabag in the Champions League in midweek due to illness.

However, it seems there is now the possibility that Jones may be leaving Liverpool before the transfer window closes.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Inter Milan have begun holding talks with Liverpool over a potential deal to sign Jones before Monday’s deadline.

It has been reported that the Serie A giants are exploring a loan deal for Jones, which would run until the end of the season, and would also include an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

The report claims that the deal for Jones could be dependent on Inter star Davide Frattesi leaving the club to join Nottingham Forest.

Frattesi is reportedly close to leaving Inter to sign for Forest, which could then allow the Italian club to actively pursue a deal for Jones to replace the midfielder.

Jones has made 29 appearances for Liverpool this season across all competitions, but has only started 10 Premier League matches and was named on the bench for last weekend’s defeat away at Bournemouth.

Ahead of Monday’s deadline, Slot was asked about the possibility of Liverpool signing players in the next couple of days, with the head coach coy with his response.

“You promise me you’re not going to ask me post-match as well? Yeah, I think you know the answer,” Slot said on Friday, when asked if Liverpool could make a signing or two before the transfer window closes.

“The answer is if we think we’ve addressed a player that can help us and think it’s possible, then we will do so.

“But those are conversations that take place, not far away from here, by the way. But not in this room.”

When quizzed if his response meant a transfer of any kind was unlikely, Slot added: “Why is it unlikely? Okay, that’s a smart way of asking it. I think the answer I gave. It’s up to you whether that means it’s unlikely or likely.”
