Prisoner killed after being ‘attacked by fellow inmate’ at UK jail as arrest made

Police have launched a murder investigation inside a UK prison after a 28-year-old prisoner died following an alleged attack by a fellow inmate.

Detectives from Suffolk Police were called to Addenbrookes’ Hospital in Cambridge at around 11am on Tuesday (January 27). The injured inmate, from HMP Highpoint Prison, had been admitted to Addenbrookes due to his injures.

The prisoner passed away in there care and police were called following the death of the man.

The deceased inmate, who was aged 28, had been alleged attacked inside HMP Highpoint Prison on January 23 by another prisoner before being taken to the hospital.

Suffolk Police confirmed the victim was taken to hospital but was actually returned to prison following treatment.

However, the injured inmate was then rushed back to hospital and passed away on the same day. Details of the man’s injuries have not been made public as police continue to investigate.

Suffolk Police arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of murder and he was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre.

Police say the incident is being treated as a murder investigation as police continue to work closely with HMP Highpoint.

A Home Office post-mortem is scheduled to take place later today.
