Man dies and two girls injured after lethal assault in Dublin as police swarm
A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene on Foster Terrace in Ballybough after Gardai were called just before 1:30am, with two women in their 60s rushed to hospital

A man has died and two women have been taken to hospital following a deadly attack in north Dublin during the early hours. Gardai rushed to Foster Terrace in Ballybough shortly before 1:30am this morning where they found a man in his 50s suffering from severe injuries.
He was declared dead at the scene whilst two women, both in their 60s, were transported to hospital where one remains in a critical condition.
Both Foster Terrace and a neighbouring property have been sealed off for forensic analysis by the Garda Technical Bureau, with the Coroner and Office of the State Pathologist being informed and a post-mortem scheduled.
No one has been arrested yet, though Gardai are pursuing a specific line of investigation and aren’t seeking anyone else regarding this incident, reports Dublin Live.
A spokesperson confirmed: “An Garda Síochána are investigating all of the circumstances of a fatal assault that occurred on Foster Terrace, Dublin 3 on Saturday 31st January 2026. Shortly before 1.30am Saturday 31st January 2026 Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of an assault that occurred on Foster Terrace, Dublin 3.
“A male (aged in his 50s) was discovered with serious injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. The remains of the deceased currently remain at the scene on Foster Terrace.
“A female (aged in her 60s ) was removed to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injures, and remains in hospital awaiting discharge. A female (aged on her 60s) was removed to hospital for treatment for serious but non-life threatening injures, and remains receiving medical treatment in hospital.
“The scene on Foster Terrace and a nearby domestic residence have been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
“A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Mountjoy Garda Station. No arrests have been made at this time.
“Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information in relation to this incident, to come forward. Investigating Gardaí are also appealing to anyone with camera footage, including motorists with dashcam footage from the area between 1am and 1.30am on Saturday 31st January 2026, to contact them.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda station on (01) 666 8600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station. Investigations are ongoing.”
