Liverpool endure main switch blow as ‘deal off’ to signal Premier League star
Liverpool’s move for Lutsharel Geertruida is reportedly off.
The Reds had lined up a move to take over the Dutchman’s loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig, with an agreement in place with the player. However, a deal was not agreed with Sunderland and it’s been reported that the transfer is currently off after talks failed to advance on Sunday ahead of Monday’s deadline.
The 25-year-old versatile right-back, who is also able to operate in defensive midfielder or at centre-back, gave the green light to Liverpool having previously played under Arne Slot at Feyenoord.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported an agreement was reached between Liverpool and the player days ago on personal terms. But warned that a solution is yet to be reached between the three clubs concerned as the Black Cats would only permit Geertruida’s departure once they’ve secured a replacement.
In an update on the deal, Romano claims that discussions have taken place over the last 24 hours but no agreement has been reached at this stage, meaning Sunderland are not planning to proceed with his exit.
Liverpool are battling injury issues at right-back with Conor Bradley ruled out for the season after undergoing knee surgery. While Jeremie Frimpong is currently sidelined with a groin problem and Joe Gomez is also battling fitness concerns.
Dominik Szoboszlai was forced to slot in as a makeshift in that role during the 4-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday. A serious ACL injury to teenage centre-back Giovanni Leoni has left him unavailable since September.
The 19-time Netherlands international has featured 17 times for Sunderland this season, but only one of his 10 starts have come at right-back.
