Body discovered after 30-year-old man disappeared throughout swim with mates at Maroubra Beach in Sydney

A body has been found in the search for a 30-year-old man who disappeared during a swim with friends at a popular Sydney beach. 

The man was reported missing after he failed to return to shore at the southern end of Maroubra Beach, south of Coogee, shortly before 4pm on Sunday.

NSW Police confirmed a body had been found about 12.20pm on Tuesday. 

‘While a formal identification process is yet to be completed, the body is believed to be that of the missing swimmer,’ police said in a statement. 

A report will be prepared for the coroner.  

The body was found during a multi-agency search by NSW Water Police, Surf Life Saving NSW and Randwick Council lifeguards. 

Volunteers and vessels from Marine Rescue Botany Port Hacking and Marine Rescue Middle Harbour also assisted in the search. 

The alarm was first raised by lifesavers who noticed the man enter the water but failed to return to shore.

The beach was evacuated as a precaution on Sunday and multiple helicopters and jet-skis were brought in to assist the search.
