Drag queen who had intercourse with canine chased down avenue by bloke shouting ‘he is a paedo’

A drag queen who was found dead under cardboard boxes was chased down in the streets before his death by a man who used social media to harass him. He was later jailed

A paedophile drag queen who died after having sex with a stranger and his dog was chased down and harassed in the streets months before his death. Donovan Clarkson, then 39, launched a sustained social media harassment campaign against Darren Meah-Moore, 39.

The harassment campaign was mostly mounted online but on one occasion Clarkson chased down Meah-Moore in public shouting “he’s a paedophile”, a court heard. Newport Crown Court heard Clarkson used social media to harass Meah-Moore where he would post about the drag star’s 1999 conviction for multiple counts of raping a child under the age of 16.

Clarkson was jailed weeks after convicted sex offender Meah-Moore – a drag queen who had featured on RuPaul’s Drag Race – was found dead in Cardiff city centre on January 22, 2023 after an unrelated incident.

Clarkson claimed to police he had “only been posting links of facts in the public domain” and denied posting anything on social media to cause distress to Meah-Moore.

At the hearing prosecutor Tabitha Walker spoke of the nature of abuse Clarkson deployed against the drag queen. She said: “Further links related to Meah-Moore representing British Airways on a float at Brighton Pride.

“In the post the defendant said BA had employed a convicted paedophile drag queen for Gay Pride accompanied by a photo of Mr Meah-Moore. Further posts of this nature were shared on Facebook on a daily basis.”

In a victim statement only months before his death Meah-Moore said: “This behaviour has caused me upset and I don’t understand why he is doing it. My past happened 23 years ago and I have to live with it every day. I don’t want to be reminded every day and I don’t want other people sharing what is not the truth.”

Meah-Moore’s husband, Mr Moore spoke of the abuse and said: “It took over my and Darren’s life to the point of affecting our relationship… Darren has recently passed away and I can’t help looking back on our last 12 months as tainted by Donovan’s actions… We were both constantly worried about what would happen next.”

Clarkson pleaded guilty to harassing Meah-Moore. His behaviour was described in court as “obsessive”.

Harry Baker, the defendant’s barrister, told the court: “There has been a diagnosis of a personality disorder which will no doubt explain the obsessive behaviour. I’m sure it provides no comfort to any victim in this case but it goes to explain the obsessive behaviour here.”

Clarkson’s social media activity was described by recorder Eynon-Evans as “intended to maximise distress”. He was sentenced to a total of 30 weeks in jail for the harassment and breaches. Alongside the sentence Clarkson was placed under an order barring him from contacting Meah-Moore or referring to either Mr Moore or the late Mr Meah-Moore on his electrical devices.

Meah-Moore was found dead covered in cardboard boxes in a secluded car park after leaving a nightclub in full drag costume on January 22, 2023 only a few months before Clarkson was sentenced in March 2023.

An inquest heard Meah-Moore was last seen in full face make-up and blonde wig after leaving Pulse nightclub in Cardiff. He had sexual encounters with other men on the same night before meeting a man walking his dog in the early hours, the hearing was told.

The dog walker said he went to a secluded car park with Meah-Moore and began engaging in sexual activity with him before the dog joined in. The man – who cannot be identified – said he tried to “shoo” the animal away but Meah-Moore told him not to. He said that Meah-Moore fell asleep and could not be roused.
