Man Utd information: Michael Carrick will get increase from Ruben Amorim as Kobbie Mainoo level made

Manchester United face Tottenham at Old Trafford as Michael Carrick’s unbeaten run continues with Kobbie Mainoo starring in midfield for the new look Red Devils since they sacked Ruben Amorim

Manchester United face another challenging fixture as they look to continue Michael Carrick’s superb winning run.

The Red Devils concluded the January transfer window quietly, sending several squad players out on loan while maintaining their core group. Carrick has brought a refreshing approach since returning to the club, securing victories in all three matches to date. Demanding encounters against local rivals Manchester City and long-time adversaries Arsenal both delivered three points, while a stoppage-time winner against Fulham ensured the interim manager maintains his perfect record.

Up next comes Tottenham at home as Thomas Frank’s team aim to capitalise on their own impressive performance in a draw against City last weekend. Victory over Spurs would strengthen United’s top-four ambitions further since sacking Ruben Amorim and potentially narrow the deficit to Aston Villa, who face Bournemouth later that day. Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim decision

Ruben Amorim has subtly demonstrated the utmost respect for Carrick by postponing any explanation of his United tenure until the season concludes, reports the Mirror.

After a 1-1 stalemate with Leeds United in January, the Portuguese boss was dismissed following 14 months at the helm.

Carrick was handed interim control with many demanding to hear Amorim’s version of events straight after his exit. Nevertheless, a source has now revealed to the Daily Mail that the 41-year-old intends to hold off until the summer before breaking his silence.

The report also indicates this choice was made to avoid disrupting the remainder of Carrick’s spell with the club. The interim manager will undoubtedly welcome this approach as he seeks to maintain an excellent run of results with United.

Kobbie Mainoo highlighted

Fulham’s Alex Iwobi has picked out Kobbie Mainoo after damaging his hand during an intense tussle on Sunday.

The midfielder has enjoyed a revival under Carrick, featuring in all three Premier League matches and covering more distance than any other player.

This stands in sharp contrast to his period under Amorim, who largely kept him on the substitutes’ bench throughout his reign. And it appears Iwobi is still experiencing the aftermath of his encounter with the England international from their meeting last weekend.

In his latest YouTube video, the midfielder remarked: “Shout out Kobbie Mainoo but Kobbie man.. you absolutely finished my hand. This guy has Ghanaian strength!”

While making this statement, Iwobi displayed his right hand, which had his ring and little finger bound together. It remains uncertain how this injury occurred, but the Fulham player’s remarks suggest the duo engaged in a contest that Iwobi evidently came off second best.

Despite being eligible to represent Ghana through his parents and expressing pride in his heritage, Mainoo, 20, committed his international future to England.

Just last month, a loan move away from United appeared to be the most probable next step for Mainoo after Amorim had handed him merely 200-plus minutes of Premier League football this campaign.

However, everything has shifted with Carrick’s comeback, who has demonstrated unwavering belief in the England international from day one, with a contract extension now seemingly being offered as well.
