Met Office warn ‘no finish in sight’ as new climate warnings issued and no solar in weeks

The soaking and gloomy UK is set for yet more bad weather as a Met Office expert warned that there is “no end in sight” amid a host of new warnings

Gloomy weather forecasters have warned “there’s no end in sight” after revealing rain has fallen every day so far in 2026.

The sodden country is set for more deluges for weeks to come, as Met Office experts warn that flooded areas are likely to get even worse. South-west England and south Wales experienced a far wetter than average January, with 50% more rainfall than usual.

And Aberdeen has seen no sunshine for two weeks – the longest period for the area since records began in 1957 – with the gloom set to continue.

The Met Office said rain will still fall daily over the weekend and some surface water flooding is likely because of the widely saturated ground.

Journey times and transport services will likely be affected and power supplies may also briefly be interrupted. Operational meteorologist Dan Stroud said: “Unfortunately, there’s no end in sight.

“Very little in the way of change, and the reason for it really is that we’ve got a big area of high pressure way out to the far north and east of the country and that’s stopping areas of low pressure from moving through.

“Until that area of high pressure sort of shifts out of the way, we’re not really going to see much of a change in the forecast.

“At the same time, we’ve got the jet stream way to the south, bringing exceptional wet weather to Spain and Portugal.”

The rain in January in the south-west region was the 12th highest on record with yet another band of rain set to arrive on Saturday.

Heavy showers will continue in the south this morning (Sat) before they gradually push up into Wales and the Midlands.

While some parts of the UK should have a slightly drier day, persistent cloud and rain will continue to beleaguer eastern Scotland including Aberdeen.

The brutal weather battering Britain has prompted bookies Coral to slash their odds to 1-2 from 6-4 for this month to end as the wettest February since records began.

John Hill from the bookmakers said: “We look set for more heavy rain over the next few days, and if we continue to get drenched, we could be set for the wettest February on record in the UK.”
