Girl, 10, horrifically mauled by ‘bulldog’ simply metres from her entrance door

Mina Bestun had to be taken to hospital straight away after suffering severe bites in the attack, and while she still remains in recovery, police are already making arrests

A 10-year-old girl remains in hospital after being horrifically mauled by a dog just metres away from her own home. Police have already made two arrests in connection with the incident.

Neighbours rushed to help Mina Bestun after she was set upon by the dog, believed to be a bulldog-like breed. In the horrendous attack, it is believed she was bitten severely in a number of different places on her arm.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Mina has now shared her trauma from that fateful day and confirmed that she is due to undergo surgery due to the severity of the bites. She also urged owners of potentially dangerous dogs to keep them inside, in case her horrendous attack happens to someone else.

Mina had only been two doors away from her home in Bolton, Greater Manchester when she was attacked by the dog on Wednesday (February 4). Luckily, neighbours had seen the dog attacking the girl and quickly ran to her aid as she was mauled in the middle of the street.

Eventually, the dog had to be distracted so that Mina would be able to escape the bites. She was soon rushed to hospital to be treated for severe bite wounds, where she currently remains.

Recounting her version of events, Mina said from her hospital bed: “I was just going back home, and then I think it was a bulldog, a big dog, and it bit me two houses down from mine. I just want to say that make sure you take care of your dog, keep them inside the house.”

Mina’s mum Soma Mohammed also spoke about the moment her darling daughter was attacked, saying she had been coming home from school when the mauling began. “My daughter was coming down the street and the dog got her,” she wept.

Soma went on to say that there were a total of 13 different bite marks in Mina’s skin, four of which were particularly deep. She has since been given antibiotics in order to prevent any potential infection the dog could have given her.

Greater Manchester Police said that two people — a 52-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man — were arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control following the mauling. Two dogs were also seized from the area in the wake of the attack.

Neighbour Nizamuddin Patel, who lives across the road from the site of the attack, watched the entire incident happen, saying he had been woken by the screams that Mina had been letting out. When he got to the door, he saw the girl running away from the dog, whilst another neighbour was trying to lure the mutt away.

“He was trying to find something to use to get the dog away,” Nizamuddin said. “He found a booster seat and threw it at the dog.

“The dog left the girl and ran towards him, then he went back into his car, and the dog went back towards where it came from. When I saw the girl, I didn’t know if she was injured, but someone said to call the police so I did so straight away.”
