Outbursts in courtroom as 4 seem over homicide of ‘good-looking and powerful’ Welsh teen
Tristan Shae Kerr, 17, died after being found with stab wounds in a house in the old coal mining village of Abertridwr, Caerphilly borough, on Thursday, February 5
Four people have appeared in court accused of the murder of a Welsh teenager. Tristan Shae Kerr, 17, tragically lost his life after being discovered with stab wounds in a residence in Abertridwr, an old coal mining village in the borough of Caerphilly, on Thursday, February 5.
Ricardo Elliot, 26, listed as residing at HMP Parc, Elexi Manny, 24, from Leigh Social Club, Caerphilly, Georgie Mears, 19, of no fixed abode, and Connor Palfrey, 24, of Aberfawr Terrace, Abertridwr, all stood in the dock at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, February 9, facing charges for Mr Kerr’s murder.
The four defendants only spoke to confirm their names and addresses, while friends and family members who were present in court were ejected from the hearing due to disruptive shouting.
Judge Sophie Toms informed the defendants that the case was too serious to be handled by magistrates and would be transferred to Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, February 10. She ordered all four to be held in custody until then.
A 28-year-old woman from Hereford, who was arrested on Friday under suspicion of aiding an offender, has since been released but remains under investigation, reports Wales Online.
Mr Kerr’s heartbroken family were also present in court. Upon leaving the court on Monday morning, they said they were too distressed to comment.
Mr Kerr’s aunt, Rachel Spriggs, speaking on behalf of the family including his mum Claire Spriggs, has said: “A deeply loved son, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend – a well-known and cherished character within his community.
“Tristan was handsome and quick-witted, with a passion for motorbikes and adventure. He had a spark about him that drew people in, and an energy that filled every room he entered. He was truly his mother’s son: strong, brave and full of warmth, with a heart that cared deeply for those he loved.”
The 17-year-old was described as the eldest son and grandson in his family, serving as an “idol” to his younger sibling Conan, according to his aunt.
A close friend of the teenager has launched a fundraising appeal to support funeral expenses, which has already collected more than £5,000.
The appeal states: “He had the most contagious smile and would light up any room he would walk into. I would just really appreciate (it), if anyone can make a donation of any of kind, little or small, to help his mother and family towards the funeral costs through this really difficult time.”
Gwent Police have confirmed that officers responded to an incident at a property in Lower Francis Street at approximately 5.45pm on Thursday, February 5 where Mr Kerr had suffered a severe injury.
He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
