Chelsea supplied VAR clarification for Leeds aim with Mike Dean ‘shocked’
Chelsea have been offered an explanation after they were adamant Jayden Bogle handled the ball in the build-up to Leeds’ equaliser on Tuesday evening
Chelsea have been offered an explanation as to why Leeds equaliser was allowed to stand on Tuesday evening.
The Blues had flown into a two goal at Stamford Bridge, but in a whirlwind ten minutes Moises Caicedo conceded a penalty which allowed Lukas Nmecha to fire home from the spot. And Leeds were back on terms a few minutes later after a chaotic series of events.
Jayden Bogle bundled the ball into the penalty area, and after some pinball, Noah Okafur was able to roll it into an open net. Chelsea players were adamant Bogle handled the ball, but the on-field decision was upheld.

A post on the Premier League’s Match Centre X account read: “The referee’s call of goal to Leeds United was checked and confirmed by VAR – with there deemed to be no handball offence by Bogle in the build-up.”
However, former referee Mike Dean was stunned on Soccer Special: “I am surprised it hasn’t been disallowed,” he told the guest.
Dean added: “It’s hit Bogle’s elbow. I was surprised it wasn’t disallowed. I can only assume they think it’s accidental.”
Chelsea fans were also stunned the handball was given and they vented their frustration on social media.
“I’m so confused here, because Bogle didn’t score the goal the handball didn’t count,” one fan questioned – with that reasoning given on TNT Sports.
“Makes no sense to me how Bogle can knock the ball forward with his arm which is the only reason he kept possession then they score and it’s allowed,” a second posted. While a third shared: “How is Bogle not handball, literally moves his hand to it!”
And another added: “Clear handball by Bogle in the buildup, VAR have robbed us there!”
