Mohamed Salah ‘green-lights Saudi Arabia switch talks’ after conflict with Arne Slot

Mo Salah has reportedly given his agent permission to negotiate a transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, with talks now underway following tensions with Liverpool manager Arne Slot

Mo Salah’s representative has begun discussions with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad after the Liverpool icon reportedly authorised him to negotiate a potentially massive switch.

The 33-year-old has been persistently linked with a switch to the Saudi Pro League in recent seasons, with Al-Ittihad famously tabling a £150million offer for his signature in 2023.

Liverpool rejected the approach before successfully warding off further interest the following year, persuading Salah to pen fresh terms running until 2027. However, a dramatic clash with Arne Slot during the current campaign has cast fresh uncertainty over his Anfield future.

While he remained at the club throughout the January transfer window, this summer might finally witness Salah’s departure to the Middle East, reports the Mirror.

According to Foot Mercato, the Egyptian international has instructed his representative, Ramy Abbas Issa, to progress with talks. The report suggests Salah is considerably more receptive to joining Al-Ittihad than he was a year ago.

The current Saudi champions recently severed ties with Karim Benzema in what became a contentious transfer saga, creating space in their spending plans for Salah.

Al-Ittihad also offloaded N’Golo Kante during January whilst Fabinho’s deal expires in June.

Another substantial earner, Moussa Diaby, has been touted for a European comeback, and he operates in the same role as Salah. The striker is on track for his least fruitful season since joining the Reds in 2017, having netted just six times this campaign.

Salah found himself temporarily sidelined from Liverpool’s squad in December after a shocking interview where he claimed to have ‘no relationship’ with Slot, who had omitted him from the starting eleven for three consecutive matches.

Salah expressed his feelings to the press: “It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.

“I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am on the bench for three games so I can’t say they keep the promise. I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship.

“I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
