Thomas Tuchel to increase England contract as Man Utd miss out on supervisor goal

Thomas Tuchel is expected to sign a new contract as England manager until 2028, keeping him in charge beyond the World Cup in a crushing blow to Manchester United’s managerial search

Thomas Tuchel is set to pen a fresh deal that will secure his position with the England national team until 2028, delivering a devastating blow to Manchester United supporters.

The 52-year-old is presently on the Red Devils’ radar to assume control at Old Trafford for the 2026/27 campaign. Nevertheless, it appears United will need to explore alternative options, as Tuchel is anticipated to prolong his tenure with the Three Lions past the World Cup.

While his existing agreement with the national side is due to conclude following this summer’s competition in North America, the Times reports the German manager has committed to remaining in post. The newspaper also suggests the FA should announce the development before Thursday’s 2025/26 Nations League draw, scheduled for 5pm.

This extension ensures Tuchel will continue leading England through the 2028 Euros, which the country is jointly staging alongside Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

Following his appointment in October 2024, Tuchel has flourished with the Three Lions, clinching qualification for this summer’s World Cup in perfect style. England not only claimed victory in all eight qualifying fixtures but managed to do so whilst maintaining a clean sheet throughout.

The news of Tuchel’s contract extension might not sit well with United supporters, especially considering the club’s current situation.

Although Michael Carrick has managed to inject some vitality into the Reds since his appointment last month, securing four victories and a draw from his first five matches at the helm, he is only serving as an interim head coach, reports the Manchester Evening News.

And the club are searching for a permanent manager with world class coaching pedigree to appoint at Old Trafford once the season has concluded.
