And the best part about it is that it’s free, quick and really, really simple to set up . . . as we’ve detailed below.

How to add Daily Star as a preferred source on Google

To add the Daily Star as a preferred source, simply click here.

Alternatively, follow these four simple steps:

  1. Open Google in either the Chrome or Google app and search any topic in the news, for example ‘Coronation Street’.
  2. Click on the icon to the right of ‘Top Stories’.
  3. Type Daily Star in the search bar when prompted
  4. Select Daily Star as your preferred source.

Once you’ve done this, refresh your browser and you’ll start seeing more exclusive and top-tier content from the Daily Star whenever you browse the news on Google Search and Discover.

Can I add more than one site as a preferred source?

Yes, you can choose as many preferred sources as you like. In fact, studies show that over half of users select four or more. You’ll still see news from a wide range of publishers, and you can manage or change your preferred sources at any time.

Choosing a specific site as a preferred source simply means you’ll see more stories from that publisher, either more often in Top Stories or in a dedicated “From your sources” section on the search results page.

It won’t limit the rest of your news feed.

I can’t see the Preferred Sources icon…

If you’ve followed the steps above but can’t spot the Preferred Sources icon next to Top Stories, don’t worry – here are a few quick things to check:

  1. Make sure you’re signed in: Preferred Sources are linked to your Google account, so check you’re logged in, then refresh the page.
  2. Try searching a different news topic: The Top Stories box only appears for topics with recent news coverage, so searching something timely can help.
  3. Update the Google app : If you’re using mobile, make sure you’ve got the latest version of the Google app installed, then try again.

Once that’s done, head back to Google and you should be able to add Daily Star as your preferred source and start seeing more of our top stories and exclusives.
