Girl, 13, ‘gang-raped by cartel’ after being mistaken for rival gang member’s girlfriend
The 13-year-old was allegedly gang raped by seven people, including a teenager and a woman who held her down, after she was mistakenly thought to be dating a rival drug dealer
A 13-year old-girl was allegedly gang-raped by cartel members who wrongly thought she was dating a rival drug dealer. The teenager’s alleged attackers only ended the assault when a phone call revealed the criminals’ mistake, leading to her release.
The young victim, who also endured threats and was “grazed by a bullet in the head”, was attacked in São João de Meriti, in Brazil’s Baixada Fluminense region. After the harrowing incident in Predinhos, Vilar dos Teles, the girl was freed once her attackers discovered who she really was.
Yet she claims they warned they would murder her family if she told police about the assault. O February 11 Rio Civil Police mounted an operation to arrest those accused of the horrific gang rape. Investigations suggest the girl was dragged before what’s known as a “drug trafficking court” or “drug trafficking tribunal”.
It was there that the criminals allegedly ordered her savage punishment. According to G1, seven people took part in the crime, including a teenager and a woman who restrained the girl, reports the Express. Officers moved to carry out five arrest warrants and one search-and-seizure warrant for the juvenile suspect.
The accused adults were named as Samir Luan Evangelista dos Santos, Matheus Eduardo da Silva Fernandes, Kalyne Aparecida Nascimento Teixeira, Fábio Rayan Santos de Jesus, and Wellington de Medeiros da Silva – who is already behind bars. Further details disclosed that one of the seven was slain by the criminals, while another individual was apprehended after being attacked by them.
It has emerged the arrested man, who had a criminal history of rape and drug trafficking, was found in hospital. Officers from São João de Meriti Women’s Police Station (DEAM) revealed that the victim resided near the Trio do Ouro community, allegedly under the control of the criminal group Terceiro Comando Puro or “Third Pure Command”.
It was reported that she was in the area visiting relatives but was mistakenly targeted as it was suspected she was the girlfriend of a member of Comando Vermelho or “Red Command”.
Recounting the incident to the police, the victim claimed she was with a friend in the square when a group of men approached and forced her into a vehicle. The victim is now in a stable condition. She has sought medical treatment at a hospital where she reportedly remained and recently moved to a health unit in a different municipality for examination by a neurosurgery team.
Military police emphasised security has been stepped up in the area and “cases of this nature are treated with absolute rigour, sensitivity, and respect for the victim”. The civil police also noted upon learning of the crime, DEAM teams promptly initiated investigations, according to reports from O Globo.
