Police storm Jet2 airplane after mass brawl erupts on Manchester flight from Turkey
Two passengers were banned for life by Jet2 after a brawl broke out on a flight from Antalya, Turkey to Manchester, forcing the plane to divert to Brussels where police stormed the aircraft
Two disruptive passengers were booted off a Jet2 flight following a mid-air punch-up. The pair have now been slapped with a ban by the airline for their ‘appalling behaviour’ on board flight LS896 from Antalya, Turkey, on Thursday evening (February 12).
However, video footage of the fracas, doing the rounds online, seems to show several other passengers embroiled in the chaos. One clip shows three men standing in the aisle of the plane, with one trying to snatch a passenger’s phone, before attempting to grab the face of the man in front.
The passenger at the heart of the brawl appears to be shoved back, before another man tries to calm things down – only for another passenger further back to start pointing fingers at someone else. That man then seems to push the first man involved in the disorder, before reaching out to grab him.
Passengers can be heard yelling in the footage, including one man who shouts: “Get back.” A number of other passengers then seem to get caught up in the brawl, including a woman who leaves her seat.
Moments later, one passenger can be seen in a headlock from another man on-board, whilst a member of cabin crew can be seen ushering the first man involved towards the back of the plane, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Other passengers can be seen stood up watching the drama unfold, whilst several shouts and screams can be heard.
Towards the end of the footage – which has sections edited out – a police officer can be seen removing one passenger from the ground, with another heard chanting: “Time to go, time to go.”
Officers stormed the aircraft after it was forced to divert to Brussels, with the Jet2 plane eventually reaching Manchester late last night.
A spokesperson for Jet2 said: “Flight LS896 from Antalya to Manchester diverted to Brussels yesterday, due to the appalling behaviour of two disruptive passengers. They were both offloaded by police in Brussels and the flight continued to Manchester.
“We can confirm that the two disruptive passengers will be banned from flying with us for life, and we will also vigorously pursue them to recover the costs that we incurred as a result of this diversion. As a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive passenger behaviour, and we are very sorry that other customers and our colleagues onboard had to experience this too.”
