King Charles may observe Queen’s uncommon televised handle method amid Andrew disaster

A royal expert suggests King Charles should consider giving a televised address following allegations Prince Andrew leaked confidential information to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein

King Charles ought to consider “playing a card” seldom deployed by the late Queen during periods of turmoil, a royal commentator has suggested. Officers and legal officials have conducted discussions regarding claims that the King’s brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor passed on sensitive documents to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Papers within the Epstein files indicate the former Prince and the Duke of York disclosed government intelligence to Epstein whilst Andrew served as the UK’s trade representative. This marks the most recent in a series of accusations against Andrew, who has consistently denied any misconduct concerning his association with Epstein.

The Royal Family has stayed predominantly quiet on the claims surrounding Andrew until the King and Prince William issued written declarations on Monday voicing “profound” and “deep concern” for Epstein’s victims.

However, according to the Sunday Times’ Roya Nikkhah, the Royal Family’s established principles of “business as usual” and “never complain, never explain” are now obsolete. She reckons Charles might contemplate adopting his late mother’s approach to managing a royal scandal.

She penned: “Their (Charles and William’s) written statements issued within hours of each other on Monday, expressing ‘profound’ and ‘deep concern’ for Epstein’s victims, have not quelled disquiet. Nor has stripping Andrew’s titles and relocating him to Norfolk extinguished public revulsion,” reports the Express. “Hearing from the monarch in personal, spoken words, rather than Palace statements, would redress that. In times of national crisis, Queen Elizabeth understood speaking to us was a reassuring salve.”

“It was a card she rarely played, but after the death of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997 and as the Covid pandemic struck in in 2020, her televised addresses settled a rattled public.”

Roya is of the opinion that a similar message from Charles, with some “input from William”, could do wonders in calming the public’s nerves.

Last year, Charles stripped Andrew of his remaining titles, and he was also evicted from the sprawling Royal Lodge in Windsor, where he had lived since 2004. He’s currently residing temporarily at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate whilst his new permanent home, Marsh Farm, undergoes refurbishment.

Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Epstein has been a source of controversy ever since they were photographed together in New York’s Central Park in 2010.

This photo was taken after Epstein had served a 13-month prison sentence for child prostitution.

Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview in November 2019 accelerated his downfall. The following year, it was announced that Andrew would be stepping back from his public duties indefinitely.

In 2021, he was stripped of all his honours, styles, and royal titles, including his peerage title of Duke of York and his birth title of Prince.
