Man Utd information: Dressing room give ‘insanity’ response over star’s unsure future

Manchester United are not back in action until next Monday when Michael Carrick’s side look to continue their unbeaten run at Hill Dickinson amid the club’s latest headache

Manchester United enjoyed a free weekend to rest and recharge whilst their top four competitors were battling it out in FA Cup action. United crashed out of the tournament at the third round stage following defeat to Brighton, providing them with an extended break between matches.

United’s winning streak under Michael Carrick was halted by West Ham last week, though he continues his unbeaten record since replacing Ruben Amorim. Coming up is a journey to Hill Dickinson Stadium to take on Everton in a week’s time.

The Red Devils will be grafting hard on the training ground during their prolonged break, whilst it has also afforded some of Carrick’s squad the opportunity to regain match fitness as they recover from injury. Here, the Daily Star Sport brings you all the latest developments from Old Trafford

Harry Maguire’s team-mates reckon the club would be “mad” not to offer the defender a new deal beyond the summer. The 32-year-old has experienced a revival under Carrick after being deployed infrequently under both Amorim and Erik ten Hag.

Backing has also increased amongst supporters for offering Maguire fresh terms, with his existing contract due to run out at the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign. It appears the United changing room shares this view, as an insider revealed to The Sun just how vital he is to the squad.

They revealed: “The players think it would be madness if he was not offered a new deal. Harry has endured plenty of ups and downs at United but has come through all that and is playing really well.

“He’s very well-respected in the dressing room and is passing on a lot of knowledge to some of the younger players like Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro. Everyone likes him and respects him and the majority of the players want the club to give him a deal.”

Matheus Cunha has sung the praises of fellow summer arrival Bryan Mbeumo, claiming that the ex-Brentford star can deliver “something special” to Old Trafford. The duo arrived at United last year for a total of £128.5million and have since provided the attacking firepower the side have been crying out for.

The pair have racked up 20 goal contributions between them and have swiftly won over the fans. It appears Cunha has taken a real shine to Mbeumo, gushing to Premier League Productions about what his striking partner brings to the table.

He said: “A lot of energy. What a lovely guy. I’m around him every day, he’s someone that is fun. I always play against him and we talk about the games that we played in the past, Brentford against Wolves.

“But to be together now and help United is something that when we arrive here, we feel like, wow, we can be a small part of the success of the team. It’s something that is a challenge that is everything to us.”

Speaking about Mbeumo’s brilliant form since his AFCON return, Cunha continued: “He’s very intelligent, he’s very clever. So he can use his strength very, very good, like going to space, he shoots so well, so good.

“This is the kind of number nine we need to have. Of course, he’s someone that helped us so much and it’s a pleasure to play with him. He’s more than the position that he plays. Being around him in the pitch, we know he can create something special.”
