Trump breaks silence on rumours he is planning to rename well-known Penn station in his identify

Donald Trump has spoken out after rumours he was planning to put pressure on New York’s famous Penn railway station to be renamed after him.

Trump has commented on this before saying Chuck Schumer had suggested renaming Penn Station to Trump Station as part of a deal to unfreeze federal funding for the $16billion Gateway rail tunnel project.

However, after stating on Air Force One early in February of it being a possibility, the US President has said it was “fake news” that he suggested it.

He told reporters earlier this month: “Chuck Schumer suggested that to me about changing the name of Penn Station to Trump Station.

“Dulles Airport is really separate. Dulles Airport is really not too involved with Congress. That’s a separate kind of a deal, as you know.”

Even more confusingly, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said it was Trump’s idea on February 10 at a press conference.

She said: “About renaming, why not? It is something the President floated in his conversation with Chuck Schumer.”

So who’s idea was it? Trump put out a statement on the matter today (February 16) while hitting out at the project.

He used the moment to hit out at Governor of California Gavin Newsom and a similar project and stated he would not be giving any further dollars if the ‘Gateway’ project overruns.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump said: “I am opposed to the future boondoggle known as “Gateway,” in New York/New Jersey, because it will cost many BILLIONS OF DOLLARS more than projected or anticipated, much like Gavin Newscum’s “Railroad” to nowhere, which is many times over budget, with no end in sight, and could financially obliterate what is left, after Newscum, of the California Economy. It is a disaster!

“Gateway will likewise be financially catastrophic for the region, unless hard work and proper planning is done, NOW, to avoid insurmountable future cost overruns.

Donald Trump'
President Donald Trump’s recent actions have caused concern

“Please let this statement represent the fact that, under no circumstances, will the Federal Government be responsible for ANY COST OVERRUNS – NOT ONE DOLLAR! The Federal Government is willing to meet, however, to make sure that this does not happen!

“Also, the naming of PENN Station (I LOVE Pennsylvania, but it is a direct competitor to New York, and “eating New York’s lunch!”) to TRUMP STATION, was brought up by certain politicians and construction union heads, not me – IT IS JUST MORE FAKE NEWS! NO COST OVERRUNS!!!”
